As you exit Glengarriff, you are heading on the main N71 in the Bantry direction.
The next 0.5 of a mile is a gradual downhill out of Glengarriff village and then flat where you will pass the beautiful Eccles Hotel on your left and on your right the picturesque Glengarriff harbour with Garnish Island in view. (Well worth a visit if you have never been.)
At this 3 mile point, the hardest part of the race is about to be endured. A gradual but long uphill, two miles in length. You will pass the Glengarriff 9-hole Golf Club on your right and then face into the "Castle Straight".
Prior to this there is a welcome water station! Half way down the "Castle Straight", you will see the breathtaking scenery of Garnish Island on your right-hand side.
